劉寶潛一九二二年出生於廣東省順德，一九三四年啓蒙於佛山市慕伊小學，年方十二。翌年參加全市校際繪畫比賽，榮獲乙組第一名。寶潛愛好藝術乃與生俱來，純是天份，一九六三年在香港初次受師於伍步雲老師，學習油畫寫生，包括靜物，人像與風景，又從梁風老師研繪圖案及鉛筆素描。

Bo Chim Almon was born in 1922, He has shown his talent for art since his childhood days in Fat Saan, China, when he won first prize in a city-wide school art competition aged only 13. his formal art education did not begin until 1963 when he learned techniques for still life painting in oil.
